New Craft & Vintage Fairs Coming to Portsmouth, Hampshire

Emporium Fairs Hampshire Flyer for vintage & craft fairsEmporium Fairs Hampshire is bringing a new series of vintage and craft fairs to Portsmouth.  Being held at the Mountbatten Leisure Centre in Portsmouth, the first fair will be on Sunday 31st May. The fairs will be held bi-monthly.

Unlike most fairs which concentrate on either vintage goods or crafts, Emporium Fairs is combining both in the one event to give visitors a wider selection and shopping experience.

Stalls at the Fair include vintage and vintage-inspired clothing and accessories, vintage china, collectables, upcycled products, hand-made ‘Mili Bears’ (military-style bears paying tribute to our armed forces), hand-sewn, knitted and crochet goods, and other traditional crafts.

Joy McCarthy, one of the two partners behind Emporium Fairs said, “The whole vintage ‘movement’ is about much more than clothes and fashion. There has been a resurgence in interest in things like knitting and crochet, and other skills which had almost died out in recent years. People want to experience the elegance and slower pace of life enjoyed by their parents and grandparents. They’re holding afternoon tea parties serving traditional food on vintage china.”

Joy went on to say, “Most of today’s goods are mass-manufactured, often overseas, using cheap materials and fabrics. Industry craftsmen have all but disappeared.  As a result, it’s the artisan crafters who are preserving traditional skills and creating the antiques and collectables of the future.  So there is a huge synergy between vintage and crafts which is why we’re combining the two.”

Enquiries are welcomed from potential stallholders who are interested in showcasing their products at the fairs. The fairs are open to the public between 11am and 3.30pm. Admission costs are £1.00 for adults and free for accompanied children under the age of 14.  More information can be found on the Emporium Fairs website: www.emporiumfairs.co.uk.
